We have teamed up with Mike Stokes Motoring and MotorSport and Bournemouth and Poole Road Safety Teams to tell you how to stay safe on the roads this winter.  

• Before making any journey make sure your tyres are legal and have enough air pressure in them.

• Make sure your car has anti-freeze and screenwash.

• If making a long journey, carry a blanket, flask, torch and warm clothes.

• Make sure your battery is fully charged.

• In wet and icy conditions make sure you keep your distance from the vehicle in front of you.

• Give yourself more time than usual to get to your destination.

• Ensure all lights are working properly, including fog lights.

• Check water, oil and fuel before starting off on a long journey.

• Keep the kids occupied on a long journey to avoid distraction.

• Be patient with fellow drivers at this time of year.

• If you can't see out of your back window, you cannot see what is behind you.

• Don't overload your car this Christmas and don't drink drive.
